Real gluten-free pizza. Aka, proof that you can fall in love again. (We did!)
Last month we discovered a restaurant where we can get real, totally celiac-safe, gluten-free pizza.
And it was SO. GOOD.
After giving up gluten permanently in 2015, I missed pizza like crazy. I’ve learned to love a good gluten-free freezer pizza as much as anybody can, but it’s not the same as grabbing Domino’s. And, to be perfectly honest, I haven’t figured out yet how to make a truly exceptional homemade gluten-free pizza (add that to the life goals list).
And then we discovered California Pizza Kitchen.
Of course, I was skeptical when I learned that they had gluten-free pizza on the menu. All too often, I get my hopes up only to realize that cross-contamination stands between me and the delicious dinner I crave. Still, it’s always worth it to read the fine print, so I carefully reviewed the menu and found this:
“These gluten-free pizzas are prepared using the strict procedures approved by The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG), using a certified gluten-free crust and other ingredients verified by our suppliers as gluten-free.”
Within about a week, we found ourselves seated at a table for two ordering pizza for the first time in what seemed like forever. Our waitress was so helpful, and by the time our pizza arrived, I felt pretty confident that I was going to be able to enjoy my pizza and the rest of the day—sickness free.
We loved it! So much that we went back again last weekend for seconds. We’ve tried the Margarita, Pepperoni, and the Original BBQ Chicken Pizza. They’re all worth eating again!
As an added bonus, California Pizza Kitchen will make any pizza on the menu with a gluten-free crust. However, only pizzas on the gluten-free menu meet processing standards for avoiding cross-contamination.
Will we back soon? I hope so—as long as I can eat comfort food covered in melted cheese! Perhaps we’re just a little star-struck, but we’d give CPK full points: 5/5 stars.
